| Cranio-sacral
- a hands-on method of evaluating
and enhancing the function of the craniosacral system. Cranio is the
Latin word referring to the head, and sacral relates to the spine and
tailbone. CranioSacral therapy uses very gentle, manual pressure applied
to the skull, spine, and membranes to restore a proper flow to the
craniosacral system which helps to relieve pain. By feeling the
craniosacral rhythm, the therapist can diagnose problems that may exist
in the craniosacral system. |
| Myofascial
release - hands-on manipulation of
the entire body to promote healing and relieve pain. Just as its name
suggests--myofascial comes from the Latin "myo" for muscle and
"fascia" for band--therapists use the technique to ease
pressure in the fibrous bands of connective tissue, or fascia, that
encase muscles throughout the body. Sheaths of this dense and elastic
connective tissue weave about blood vessels, bones, and nerves as well,
forming an intricate, 3-D web that supports your organs and joints from
head to toe and acts as the body's shock absorber. |
| Sports - a
general term for different styles of massages used to enhance
performance. Generally vigorous, like Swedish massage, and often dealing
with deep muscles, sports massage is also used on different parts of the
body, such as legs and arms, in addition to the back, neck and sacrum.
Sports massage is most commonly used to help prevent athletic injury,
keep the body flexible and heal the body should injury occur |
| Chair
Massage -this form of therapy is
performed on a fully clothed client seated in a chair, generally in a
corporate or business setting. Therapists use a combination of massage
strokes, including Shiatsu, Swedish and deep tissue massage to alleviate
temporarily the symptoms of stress and fatigue. Massages typically last
five to fifteen minutes and are performed in a dimly lit, cool, quiet
place, such as an unused office or empty break room. |
| Swedish
- vigorous style of massage
designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. The client
disrobed and lays facedown on a table, under a sheet, with only the area
being worked on exposed. The therapist first applies oil to reduce
friction, and then uses rolling, kneading and percussive strokes to
manipulate and relax the soft tissues of the body. Swedish massage is
used for relaxation and improved circulation. |
| Principles
of Touch |
Neuromuscular
(tripoint)
- are specific massage techniques
that bring balance between the muscles, the skeletal system, and the
nervous system. Balance within the body is important for maintaining
optimum health. Trigger Points are areas in the muscle that become
irritated. When they are pressed upon they trigger referred sensations
that may feel like pain, tingling, or numbness, just to name a few. If,
for example, I press on a point in your neck, you may feel a referral of
pain toward your head. Trigger Points may be released through this
method of massage therapy to eliminate pain and discomfort elsewhere in
the body.

| Reflexology
(ears, hands & feet) - Reflexology
is a complementary, biological, integrative, blended health science,
through which an exercise pressure is applied to reflex areas, formed by
7,200 nerve endings in each hand and each foot, encouraging improved
instruction to each and every organ, gland and single part of the body,
thus persuading the body to biologically correct, strengthen and
reinforce itself. |
| Prana/Chi
- In Pranic Healing a cure
is effected by simply removing diseased energies
from the patient's invisible energy body and by transferring fresh vital
energy (Prana) to the affected areas with the use of the hands. Using
a scientific "no-touch" methodology, Pranic Healing can
prevent, alleviate, and heal a whole spectrum of physical, emotional,
and mental ailments. |
